October 15, 2016 - Daily Notes
200 words
Here in Seattle, a huge October storm is coming and as I write, the spider out my window builds her web. The repetition of her endeavor is humbling. "We have been weaving and reweaving the threads of equality for decades," I think.
Somewhere in my young life, I adopted the convenient notion that once a job is done it is done. But the stunningly accomplished arachnid on the other side of the wavy farmhouse glass has been here her entire life. How many times has she spun and re-spun? What else, pray tell, would she ever do?
This month my heart has been tender and I think it has to do with being attuned, in the way we all are, to the collective. The depth of misogyny, xenophobia, homophobia and racism here in America has been revealed on a stage no one can ignore. These forms of hatred are not new, but it hurts to see them. Our work is not done.
Things will get blown around tonight but the spider will keep weaving.
The same creative force that lives inside her lies in all of us. It is our superpower. It is the reason all will not be lost. It is love.
We are making progress. Love is winning. Let's keep going.
Yours from inside Typhoon Songa,
xo
